Katarina Wit first started skating at age five. Soon, her talents began to emerge and she was invited to Karl-Marx Stadt's special schools. Her coach Jutta was also there. Breakthrough year Witt's breakthrough came in 1982 when she came second at the World Championships in Copenhagen. Following that, she started dominating the sport with elegance and grace. Olympic Success at Sarajevo, at the Sarajevo Winter Games in 1984, Katarina won the gold medal for women's figure-skating in a highly competitive contest. The following year, she won an even tougher competition. The free skating competition, but was awarded the gold medal based on her performance during the compulsory figure and the short programme. Witt was the only female since Sonja Haenie who was an apex figure skater. Hall of Fame Witt had many successes as an acting career, however she returned to her sports to participate in the Lillehammer Winter Games of 1994. Despite not winning the gold medal, she was a hit with the spectators. Witt was admitted to the World Figure Skating Hall of Fame in the year 1995.
